Easy to Clean
Solaris Designs fabrics are engineered to resist spills and stains. Blot messes with a clean, dry cloth and mild soap and warm water. For tougher messes, our fabrics are safe to clean with diluted bleach.
Fade & UV Resistant
Unlike ordinary fabrics with dyes added to the surface, Solaris Design fibers are solution-dyed with UV stabilized pigments, so the color remains true and vibrant.
Mold and Mildew Resistant
Unlike natural fibers, mold and mildew can't grow or penetrate through Solaris Design's acrylic fibers, making them an excellent option for humid climates.
Weather Resistant
Solaris Designs fabrics are engineered to withstand extreme weather conditions. Whether that's intense sun, rain, snow, or humidity, your Solaris Designs fabric will be just fine.

HOW IT COMPARES
Solaris Designs VS. Top Outdoor Fabrics
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE
Acrylic Fabrics VS Polyester Fabrics
Not all outdoor fabrics are equal, and when it comes to the differences between all-weather polyester and acrylic fabrics, it’s important to understand the materials.
WHAT IS POLYESTER
Polyester is a man-made plastic crafted from petroleum. To make it into a fabric, the raw material undergoes a process called melt spinning, where the molten plastic is forced through a spinneret until it cools and solidifies into durable threads that we then use to craft select cushions, rugs, and throw pillows. It’s then treated to enhance its outdoor performance to resist water and fading.
WHAT IS ACRYLIC FABRIC
Acrylic fabric is a man-made textile woven from polyacrylonitrile polymer fibers. It’s created from a chemical reaction that dissolves the polyacrylonitrile into a gel form that is then extruded through a spinneret to form the acrylic fibers. Those acrylic fibers are then dyed, washed, and stretched into a yarn that we use to make highly durable outdoor cushions and patio accessories.
HOW ARE ACRYLIC & POLYESTER OUTDOOR FABRICS DIFFERENT?
While polyester and acrylic fabrics are both synthetic fibers derived from fossil fuels, their price points, resistances, and outdoor durability scores vary. Polyester has a shorter outdoor life compared to acrylic fabrics. Its fibers aren’t as resistant to fading and grime, and it has a shorter warranty period compared to acrylic fabrics. However, polyester is much cheaper to produce than acrylic, making it a budget-friendly alternative that’s still waterproof and resists fading and UV exposure up to one year without furniture covers.
Acrylic fabric, on the other hand, is a premium material that boasts a range of resistances. Like polyester, acrylic fabric resists fading, UV exposure, mold, mildew, weather, and stains. It comes with a 5-year warranty, and it’s bleach cleanable, making it an easy-to-care-for material that’s built to last.

HOW-TO
MAINTAINING SOLARIS DESIGNS FABRICS
Life can deliver the unexpected, but it doesn't have to ruin your day! When you choose Solaris Designs performance fabrics, you get durable and stain-resistant fabrics that are easy to maintain.
Cleaning Acrylic Outdoor Cushions
Outdoor Cushion Care
Caring for outdoor performance fabric is easy. All you need to maintain your Solaris Designs cushions is a little soap, water, and these easy steps:
- Brush off loose dirt from the product.
- Spray on a cleaning solution composed of 2 parts water to 1 part mild soap. Use a soft bristle brush, sponge, or clean towel to clean. For peskier messes on acrylic fabrics, add in a splash of bleach.
- Allow the cleaning solution to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes before rinsing.
- Rinse until the water runs clear.
Mold & Mildew Stains
Solaris Designs solution-dyed acrylic outdoor cushions products don’t sustain mold or mildew growth, but they may grow on dirt and other foreign substances if grime isn't removed from the fabric. To remove mold or mildew, follow these steps:
- Prepare a solution of 1 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup of mild soap for every gallon of water used.
- Spray the mixture on the infected area and allow it to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.
- Clean the surface area with a clean sponge, towel, or soft bristle brush.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Air dry.
For severe mold or mildew growth, increase the bleach ratio.
Best Practices:
1. Clean the entire surface area of the fabric to avoid water rings and stains.
2. Extend the life of your outdoor furniture by covering it when not in-use.
3. Prevent pillows and cushions from becoming water logged during rainy weather by turning them on their side. Zipper-side down.
